The local government board of Namur (Collège communal de Namur) appointed the concessionaire for the future underground public carpark at Confluence/Grognon at its meeting on 28 April. The successful bidder for the design, construction, management and operation is Interparking, known in Namur as the current operator of the Beffroi carpark beneath the Place d’Armes.

The carpark will also be directly linked to Jambes by a foot and bicycle bridge and can thus meet the parking needs of those who wish to access the right bank of the Meuse. The carpark will also have “bicycle and motorbike” parking.

Of the three bids received, the number of carpark spaces was the deciding factor.

The carpark, built on four levels underground, will have a large capacity of 747 spaces, of which 132 will be dedicated to the Walloon Parliament and financed by it in the form of subscriptions for the duration of the concession period.

The public carpark will offer ample-sized parking spaces, 19 disabled parking spaces, rows of parking spaces without columns, a detection and guidance system to guide drivers to vacant spaces, 6 electric charging stations, 53 free spaces for bicycles and an area with 48 lockers.

Nothing was left to chance as regards pricing: reduced evening rates, special overnight rates, different subscription packages and a tourist rate.

This offer must not only meet current demand, but also future requirements, especially in light of regionalisation and the role of Namur – Capital:  growing population, increasing office space (public and private) and various largescale construction projects.
