Interparking joins the “Clean Air Alliance” as Founding Partner in smart data initiative for improved air quality
Interparking is actively engaged in the newly launched Clean Air Alliance (CAA), a public-private partnership led by Airscan, alongside other Belgian companies and organizations. This initiative aims to establish Belgium's most comprehensive air quality monitoring network by 2030.
The launch of CAA comes at a crucial time, driven by increasing concerns about both outdoor and indoor air quality, and in anticipation of stricter indoor public space standards set for 2027. Recognizing the intricate connection between indoor and outdoor air quality, CAA will collect real-time outdoor air data through a shared platform accessible to businesses, public authorities, and civil society organizations. This rich data will serve as the foundation for targeted actions, smarter ventilation strategies, and more effective policy-making.
Currently, Belgium benefits from approximately 120 public measurement points. CAA's ambitious goal is to expand this number to 2,000 by 2030, achieved through the installation of outdoor sensors by participating companies and organizations like Interparking.
Leveraging smart data for healthier environments
“For years, the concept of "smart cities" has been discussed, but a genuine smart management remains challenging without precise real-time air quality data.” As Antoine Geerinckx, initiator and co-founder of CO2logic and Airscan, states, "Clean Air Alliance bridges this gap, translating data into concrete actions for better air quality."
Poor indoor air quality is linked to various issues, including fatigue, headaches, reduced productivity, impaired brain development in children, and an increased risk of cardiovascular and other diseases. CAA's data-driven approach facilitates smart ventilation, ensuring that spaces are ventilated only when necessary and when outdoor air quality is optimal. The shared network also offers a cost-effective solution for multi-site companies, providing access to a wealth of measurement points and targeted advice for improving indoor air quality in preparation for the 2027 standards.
Interparking's commitment
Interparking, alongside other key Belgian players such as Belfius, Delhaize, AG Real Estate, and UPSI-BVS, supports Clean Air Alliance. Air quality management is a key ESG topic for Interparking, so we aim to purify the air in our car parks, for example by neutralising harmful particles and minimising the time car drivers spend searching for a parking space.
A first notable initiative was launched in April 2019 with the commissioning of a particle reduction system at the Beffroi car park in Namur, Belgium. Developed in collaboration with Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, this system uses the positive ionisation process to capture the fine particles present in the ambient air. As a result, the ambient air is cleared of 50% to 70% of particles, 40% of fine particles, and 20% of ultrafine particles. According to air quality measurement firm Airscan.org, thanks to the system installed at the Beffroi car park, the concentration of particles inside the car park is lower than the average levels recorded outside. This was the first system of this type for the Interparking Group and the first to be rolled out in Belgium. Since then, 135 systems have been deployed in our car parks.

The alliance builds upon successful prior initiatives, including improving air quality in 75 schools (resulting in a 40% improvement) and the PureCities program in 40 municipalities. This expertise is now being centralized on a shared platform, equipping businesses with practical tools to strengthen their environmental and societal impact.
